ABOUT US

HISTORY lovers

In 1980, ROLZA had a car wash to raise money to install a basketball hoop in the park.

Riverside on Lake Zoar Association, Inc. was established in 1927.  We are one of the longest running associations in Connecticut!

Riverside on Lake Zoar Association, Inc, or ROLZA as we like to call it, purchased the roadways and some parcels of land from Soule-Roberts on August 24, 1929 for $3000!  The town of Newtown has since taken over the ownership of the roads.  We lost some of the parcels of land, due to the association going dormant, and in 2009 the Town of Newtown took over some properties in order to reset a well system for the neighborhood.  In 2015, a group of concerned neighborhood property owners banned together to start the process of purchasing/revitalizing the Pavilion Property, 49 Alpine Drive.  We brought the 2 currently owned ROLZA properties back in good standing. After countless hours of hard work, petitions, meetings and lots of conversing Riverside on Lake Zoar, Inc. purchased the Pavilion property back from the Town of Newtown in 2017.  Our ribbon cutting ceremony was held on July 16, 2017.  To read the Newtown Bee article please click HERE.

To date the Pavilion is in the process of getting a face-lift.  We have cleaned up the beach area, installed a fire-pit along with horseshoe pits to have a game with friends and neighbors.  We have rebuilt the Pavilion, installed a metal roof, repaired concrete, added stone veneers to the pillars and added colored stucco to the perimeter seating.  All of this would not be possible without the help and support of our friends and neighborhood members.

a bit of history

On July 10, 1976 there was a vote scheduled to establish the Riverside Tax District.  This would have meant that all property owners would no longer have to raise the money to maintain the roads and parcels of land on their own. The vote did not pass.  To read the article from The Bridgeport Post on June 27, 1976 please click HERE.
